conversation with a 2-year old
Little Miss: Oh, my dumick hurts, Mom-mom. I need to hit up.
Me: Your stomach hurts, and you need to throw up?
Little Miss: Mmm hmmm, I need to kick up.
The good news: She didn't throw up.

our current read-aloud
Duh!
A Christmas Carol, by Charles Dickens, o'course!
After we finish, we'll watch a few different versions: the classic 1951 movie, Patrick Stewart's made-for-tv, and A Muppet Christmas Carol. It'll be great fun comparing, contrasting, critiquing.

I'm a baaaaad blogger...
Some people blog every day without fail.
Not me.
Some people blog several times a week.
I used to.
I'm expecting the blog patrol to show up any day now.
I shall be charged with failure to blog...
and sentenced to 30 lashes with a wet noodle.
heh, heh.
But on the upside, we've been gettin' some serious schoolin' done around here. Forging ahead, and all that. The kids have been completing their scheduled work each day, and we are consistently making time for read-alouds, memory work, and the ever-important outside play time (with temps in the 70s, how could we not?).
Speaking of memory work, Little Miss has been working on a poem. This is what she has memorized so far:
She just beams when we all clap for her! She also loves "Nobody," by Shel Silverstein. She sits with the book in her lap and "reads" it to us. It's amazing how much of it she remembers just from hearing KK recite it.
In other news, the big kids are just as strange as ever. I was reading a story from Mighty Men to E-man today. It was about Coriolanus. The first time I said, "Coriolanus," KK and E-man snickered. It took me about 10 seconds to figure out what was so funny. If you don't get it, just find a kid, any kid, and say, "Coriolanus." Then ask him or her to explain what's so funny. In my experience, kids are always happy to explain things like this to bewildered adults.
